What Is the Fastest Corvette in the World? Top 10 List

[Updated 2018] Trying to determine the fastest Corvette ever made is no easy task. We’re talking about a brand with a long and extensive history, as well as a reputation as one of the major manufacturers of supercars.

We’ve been referring to the Corvette as America’s sports car for the past few decades. However, Chevy has been making attempts to break through the frontiers and become a big player on the global market. Ultimately, this goal seems to have paid off when General Motors introduced to the public what would become one of the fastest production cars in the world. And here’s the winner for the fastest Corvette in the world at the moment.

10. Corvette C6 Grand Sport Coupe (2013) – 430 hp

On this spot, we have a sixth-generation Grand Sport. It had the misfortune of being released in a very competitive year. You’ll see what we mean down below. But for now, we can’t help but praise Chevrolet for giving this model its fantastic 430-hp producing 6.2-liter V8. We can continue with the numbers. We will accentuate even further what it is that makes this car worthy of being included on this list. It reportedly reaches a maximum speed of 190 mph and boasts a torque of 424 pound-feet. Last but not least, it can make the famed 0-60 run in 4 seconds flat.

9. Corvette ZHZ (2009) – 436 hp

It almost looks like General Motors is set on writing history no matter what. Who invests any effort in limited-run products or, say, rental cars? The 2009 ZHZ actually was a rental car with only 500 models produced specifically for Hertz. Yet here it is – snatching a spot on the list containing the fastest Corvette of all time. We can attribute this success to the 436-hp 6.2-liter V-8 and the 0-to-60 time of 4.3 seconds.

8. Corvette Stingray Z51 (2016) – 455 hp

It seems almost natural that the closer we get to the current year, the closer we’ll get to unveiling the fastest Corvette of them all. It just can’t be helped – it’s easier to pack great power with better technology. The year 2016 didn’t just have better technology than prior models. It also featured the return of the Stingray name which so many enthusiasts are fond of.

The 0-to-60 is even better than with previous entries, managing to traverse it in 3.8 seconds. The impressive 6.2-liter V8 can roar at 455-hp and this performance road biter that is the Corvette Stingray Z51 has a starting price of only $50,000.

7. Corvette 427 (2013) – 505 hp

The aforementioned Grand Sport Coupe had this anniversary edition Corvette to compete with and, unfortunately, lost. Chevrolet continued to prove they take their limited-run models seriously and packed the 427 with a beastly 7.0-liter V-8. The overwhelming 505-hp engine can propel this special feature Corvette from a 0 to a 60 also in 3.8 seconds.

Despite being a 2013 release, all of the previously mentioned numbers alongside the impressive 470 pound-feet torque make the perfect package. The perfect package to compete against the previous 2016 Stingray, that is. Unfortunately, it’s STILL not the fastest Corvette around.

6. Corvette Z06 Centennial Edition (2012) – 505 hp

The 427 wasn’t the car that “wore” the 7.0-liter V-8 for the first time. This feat doesn’t go to the anniversary Corvette over here either. Chevrolet released it in honor of the epic 100-year celebration of the brand. This impressive model was released in 2012 and its limited nature, as well as the spec package, boosted its price tag to the realm of six digits. It could make the 0-to-60 sprint in 3.8 seconds and, additionally, could boost through a mile quarter in only 11.9 seconds.

5. Corvette GT1 Championship Edition (2009) – 506 hp

This should become a recurring pattern by now. We see the name of a model, we see it has “edition” in it, and we instantly assume that this means good news for our search for the fastest Corvette. Appropriately so, this Championship Edition GT1 delivers.

Created in celebration of the participation in the American Le Mans Series, this GT1 came forth with the 7.0-liter V-8 for the first time. The 0-to-60 could be cracked in 3.7 seconds with the quarter mile being reached in only 11.6 seconds.

4. Corvette Z06 Carbon Edition (2011) – 505 hp

This 2011 release was a variant of the well-known Z06 but that is certainly not a reason to dismiss the potential it has. The Carbon Edition of the Z06 set a new record for Corvette for a while. With the help of the one and only 7.0-liter V8 engine, the car could sprint up to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds. The masterminds behind this model engineered the car with less power, but with new tweaks to give it better agility.

3. Corvette ZR1 (2013) – 638 hp

2013 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

When we said 2013 was a truly competitive year, we weren’t kidding. We must give credit to this model for being able to withstand the test of time and be the second fastest Corvette of all time. This ZR1 virtually teleported from 0 to 60 in 3.6 seconds. It could traverse the quarter mile in an overwhelming 11.3 seconds.

The 6.2-liter V8 gave it an overall speed of 206 mph and a 638-hp generation. That also gave it a pretty spicy price tag to go with its impressive list of specs and numbers. The ZR1 almost made it through but, unfortunately, its reign as the fastest Corvette is over.

2. Corvette Z06 (2016) – 650 hp

The 2016 Corvette C7 Z06 rolled off the ramp in 2015. The car wrote history, not only for Corvette, but for speedy production cars everywhere. Compared to the 3.6 seconds of its runner-up, the Z06 can reach the 60 mph in as little as 2.95 seconds! This is pretty much miles away, which seems to be a motto that drove the engineers forward during the making of this car. The amazing 2016 Z06 specs don’t end here. Its 6.2-liter V8 comes with a preference for the number 650: 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. This wholly makes up for the Corvette Z06 top speed of 195-mph which some consider underwhelming.

1. Corvette C7 ZR1 (2019) – 755 hp

Chevrolet Corvette C7 ZR1

And the title of the fastest Corvette to date goes to the 2019 C7 ZR1! With a price tag of about $120,000, the latest of ‘Vettes sports a 6.2-liter LT5 V-8 engine generating 755-hp and and 715 lb.-ft. of torque. Accelerating to 60 mph in less than three seconds, the C7 ZR1 does a quarter-mile in less than eleven seconds!

Corvette C7 ZR1 comes with 335 section rear tires and the brakes have two-piece carbon ceramic rotors. To overcome Z06’s overheating issues, the ZR1 comes with an improved intercooler system and four radiators. This brings the number of heat-exchangers to 13 (Bugatti Veyron, for example, has 10).

The ZR1 is everything you could want from a ‘Vette, so get your check books ready for spring 2019!

Final Words

On this note, we end our quest for the fastest Corvette. The number one spot was such a drastic step forward compared to the other entries that it just makes us wonder if Grand Motors will ever be able to pull this off again.
