C6 Corvette 2010-2013 Part II

2010 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport

For 2010 Chevrolet brought about another variation of the Corvette in coupe and convertible and named it Grand Sport. Even though this was a name from its past, Grand Sport was also known as the “wide body” because its fender styles were mimicked from Z06 and ZR1. The larger wheels pushed the flaring out for this year’s Grand Sport. A few interesting upgrades, only with manual transmission, where the rear mounted battery, dry sump oiling system, and a differential cooler. These were considered race car inherited items, so you automatic folks were left out on these upgrades.

Grand Sport

The Grand Sport’s power plant was a 6.2 L LS3 V8 and pushed out 430 horse power. Options included a Targa roof coupe as well as a convertible, unlike the Z06 which was only a fixed roof Corvette. To complete the uniqueness of the Grand Sport, hash marks were added to the top right portion of the fender and were available in four colors. These hash marks got their origin on the 1963 Grand Sport Corvette. They quickly allowed clear identification for the pit crew to know which cars came in for service!

ZR1

Now here comes something really cool! 2011 “Carbon Edition” of the Z06, and only 500 were made, now that’s a nice rare sports car! The unique Corvette only came in two colors, Inferno Orange and the new Supersonic Blue. It was fitted with the ZR1 style spoiler, a carbon fiber hood, and black carbon fiber rockers and splitters. Ebony leather and suede seats were affixed to its interior with body color matching stitching. On the rubber side, 19 inch front wheels and 20 inch rear wheels gave this beauty its proud stance!

Chevrolet celebrates 100 years of making cars in the US and produced a ZLC commemorative “Centennial Edition” of the Corvette. Several special features included a carbon flash metallic exterior color, ebony seating surfaces with suede accents and red stitching, satin black graphics, special centennial black wheels and red brake calipers, and custom leather wrapped instrument panel and doors with seat embossment, steering wheel badge and special interior trim plate.

2012 Corvette was also adorned with a new Carlisle Blue Metallic color in honor of the great “Corvettes at Carlisle” event held every year in August in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Here you can see over 5,000 Corvettes, if you have the time and stamina, all at one place! Also unique to 2012, or maybe not, was the 11th time Corvette paced the Indianapolis 500 with the sexy ZR1 that was chosen to lead the pack!

60th Anniversary Edition

Sometimes they say, “we saved the best for last” and that is was the 2013 60th Anniversary Edition truly is. This very special Corvette is the last edition of the C6 generation running for 8 consecutive years and perfectly fitting into this honor. This was the 5th time Chevrolet produced an ‘Anniversary’ edition of the Corvette. Other Anniversary editions included the 25th for 1978, the 35th for 1988, the 40th for 1993, and the 50th for 2003. All be it, the surprise of this special edition Corvette was that it was available in, my personal favorite, a convertible!

The new convertible featured the, by now famous, 427 cubic inch V8 with it 505 horsepower rating from the Z06. It had been a long time, 1966 to 1969 model years, when the convertible was produced with a 427 power plant. Its 0-60 time was astonishing at 3.8 seconds with a top speed of 190 mph! All 2013 Corvettes featured the special 60th anniversary badging on the fascias and the interior waterfall area of the convertible as well as 60th anniversary logos on its instrument panel and sill plates.

Only real car freaks know the special value of owning VIN 001. This very special 2013 Chevrolet Corvette 60th Anniversary Edition 427 Convertible was auctioned off for a price of $600,000 on Saturday, January 12, 2012 at the Barrett-Jackson auto auction in Scottsdale Arizona. To sweeten the event, race car driver Jeff Gordon assisted the promotional efforts of this special auction that netted $700,000 to a hunger food relief organization.
